
Michael Kobori is the former Chief Sustainability Officer at Starbucks, a Terras Tuscany and Terras New York attendee, and a member of the Terras Advisory Board.
With a career spanning corporate sustainability, international development, and board governance, Michael has spent over two decades working to build a more just and sustainable world.
Michael has held senior leadership roles at some of the most influential organisations in sustainability, including Vice President of Sustainability at Levi Strauss & Co. and Vice President at BSR. He has served as a board director of Bunge Global SA, a global agribusiness and food company, and held various roles at The Asia Foundation. Currently, he is a strategic advisor to Terras, NationSwell, a community of leaders from the corporate, public, and non-profit sectors, and Gaeastar, a circular economy start-up.
His board and advisory experience spans the USDA Cotton Board, the UN Better Work Program, the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, the Better Cotton Initiative, and the Levi Strauss Foundation. He is a Trustee of The Asia Foundation and a member of the U.S.-Japan Council.
Michael is a respected speaker at UN forums, the Aspen Institute, and industry conferences worldwide. He has taught sustainability at the Haas Business School, University of California at Berkeley, and served as a mentor for 50/50 Women on Boards.
Michael holds a Master's Degree in Public Policy from the University of California at Berkeley, where he also received his undergraduate education in Asian Studies and Psychology. He studied sustainable finance at Oxford University.
